Workshop on research in organic pig production

April 24 - 25, 2003 at Horsens, Denmark

In 2000 and 2001 the joint Danish research programme DARCOF II on organic farming were initiated. The initiative involved a number of research projects focussing on organic pig production.

As part of the midterm evaluation of the research projects in DARCOF a workshop will be held in order to present and discus status, preliminary results and project plans etc. within these projects.

Similar, research initiatives within organic pig production have been taken in Sweden recently. In order to broaden the workshop Swedish researchers working with organic pig production have been invited to the workshop in order to present their research and to enter the discussion.

The aim of the workshop is thus to:

  • Clarify what is going on in research in organic pig production in the Nordic Countries
  • Present an opportunity for a direct interaction between the researchers in order to stimulate coop-eration in the present efforts
  • Facilitate future cooperation in research in organic pig production
  • Create an overview which can be used by decision makers for the allocation of funds for organic research

The workshop is thus primarily addressing researchers in the Nordic countries working with organic pig production. However, researchers from abroad working with organic pig production are also very welcomed.

The cost of participation is app. 1800 DKK. The amount includes meals and accommodations, but not travel and additional beverages etc.

John E. Hermansen, DIAS, organizes the workshop and questions about the scientific programme can be directed to him.

Questions on the practical programme etc. can be directed to ms. Grethe Hansen, DARCOF.
